Profile and Services

Freelance Journalist

With an educational background in environmental sciences and journalism and a decade of experience as a wilderness canoe and sea kayak guide, my published writing ranges from in-depth investigations of resource management and environmental issues, protected places, science and policy, to adventure travel narratives and service journalism. My stories appear in dozens of Canadian and US magazines and newspapers, including the Globe and Mail, explore, Cottage Life, ON Nature, Backpacker, Canoe & Kayak, the Toronto Star, Adventure Kayak and Canadian Geographic. Contextually rich, deadline-sensitive journalism is my specialty—whether I’m investigating contentious environmental debates, highlighting ecotourism hotspots or writing reader-friendly service articles.

*Winner of a 2010 Northern Lights Award for travel writing excellence (1st Place, independent journalist, magazine)

* Author of The Greatest Lake: Stories from Lake Superior’s North Shore (2012, Dundurn Press)
